LE MARS, IA

“The Ice Cream Capital of the World”.  Officially designated as such in 1994, Le Mars has been the home to Wells Enterprises Inc., makers of Blue Bunny® brand ice cream, since the company’s founding by Fred H. Wells, Jr., in 1913. Today, more ice cream is produced in Le Mars, Iowa, by a single company than in any other city in the world!  While we love to promote ice cream, we have so much more to offer! So, whether you are staying a while or just passing through, we invite you to experience the “local flavor”!

We take pride in having one of the largest county fairs in the state of Iowa.  The Plymouth County Fair continues to grow each year!  The fair’s success is attributed to the work of hundreds of volunteers, entertainers, and exhibitors.

Centrally located in Le Mars, Foster Park and the surrounding neighborhood were officially recognized as a historic district by the National Register of Historic Places on April 25th, 2008.  This is a rare honor afforded only to the most historically and architecturally significant neighborhoods in Iowa and across the nation.

A variety of community events are held here each year, starting with Art in the Park during the Le Mars’ Ice Cream Days celebration every June.  The carousel gazebo is the stage for the Le Mars Municipal Band which plays on Wednesday evenings and is a beautiful backdrop for wedding ceremonies held there throughout the summer months.

Willow Creek Golf Course is a real asset.  This 27-hole course has 3 unique nines with varying levels of difficulty. Due to the many tee choices, this course can offer a challenge for the better golfer or a shorter and easier path for the less experienced. The original eighteen is characterized by a creek that runs throughout many of the holes along with tree-lined fairways. The newest nine is more of an open lynx style with several wetland areas and prairie grassland that can come into play. Play any nine or all of them and we’re sure you’ll have an enjoyable round.
