Many Siouxland natives are familiar with the local company Thompson Electric; however, some might be less familiar with the company’s CEO, Skip Perley. Mr. Perley started working as an apprentice with Thompson Electric almost four decades ago. Over the years he worked his way to a management position, eventually becoming the President and CEO of the growing company. As the CEO of Thompson Electric, Skip has successfully expanded the company not only to different markets like Sioux Falls, SD and Omaha, NE, but also to different categories of the electric industry.
Skip co-founded TEC-Corp, which is considered the parent company for Thompson Electric, Electric Innovations, and Thompson Teledata. TEC-Corp is able to provide a vast array of services for a diverse customer base, with over 200 employees across three markets that specialize in similar yet very different aspects of the electric industry.
When asked how he manages such a large company Skip informed me that he likes to put people in situations where they are challenged. He finds that employees who volunteer their time to non-profit organizations and become success within those organizations are true assets to the company. This sort of mentality is what will help keep TEC-Corp and the over 80 year old Thompson Electric successful for generations to come.
